Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) held a policy seminar on “Future of Korea’s Land Use and Competitiveness of Cities” on April 8, at The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The seminar was organized with two sessions: “National Land Use Planning for the Future” (Session 1) and “Making More Thriving and Livable Cities” (Session 2.) The first session, discussed how to plan land use for the future with uncertainties by the reunification of Korea and megatrends such as aging population, low growth, and climate change. The second session discussed measures to build urban economic bases and make cities flourishing. Discussed measures include encouraging the private sectors to participate in urban regeneration and boosting creative industries and creative class. Participants also talked over the utilization of mobile big data in spatial planning and policies to stabilize the rental housing market as measures to enhance livability in cities.
