KRIHS, WB hold knowledge exchange workshop

  The Global Development Partnership Center (GDPC) of the Korea Research Institute for Human Settlements (KRIHS) along with the World Bank Group held the Knowledge Exchange Workshop at an auditorium in the KRIHS on June 1, 2016.

 

  Wanggeun Lee, the director of the Urban Regeneration Research Center at the KRIHS, gave a presentation on the urban regeneration policy in Korea. He mentioned that urban regeneration for urban development is gradually changing the paradigm of urban development.


  The presentation by Sangkeon Lee, a senior research fellow of the Infrastructure Policy Research Center, covered cases of building a smart city. He suggested building a smart city by figuring out the most vital, integral functions in each city, saying that would  gradually lead to the creation of a smart city customised for each country and city. During the presentation about the urban disaster preventative strategies in response to climate change, Woosuk Han, an associate research fellow from the Territorial & Regional Policy Research Center, stressed that urban planning must include disaster vulnerability assessment and plans to minimize damages from natural calamities.


  Among the participants were visitors including Michal Kwiatkowski, head of Transport Policy Unit in the Ministry of Infrastructure & Construction of Poland,  Rakesh Kumar, superintending engineer at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway in India and Gwangho Shin, a senior official at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. Officials from the KRIHS who attended the workshop included Ilho Chung, director of the GDPC, Songsu Choi, a senior research fellow, Wanggeun Lee, the director of the Urban Regeneration Research Center, Sangkeon Lee, a senior research fellow, Woosuk Han, an associate research fellow and Miseon Park, an associate research fellow.​
