International Seminar at the 7th World Water Forum 

About: How to enforce resilience to flood disasters caused by climate change

The National Territorial Planning and Research Division of KRIHS co-hosted an international seminar on urban resilience with the Woodrow Wilson Center and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, on April 14, in Daegu. At the seminar entitled “The Direction to Enforce Resilience to Flood Disasters Caused by Climate Change,” KRIHS Vice President Kim Dongju gave a congratulatory speech, and WWC Vice President Blair Ruble and Director Alven Lam of Ginnie Mae delivered keynote speeches. Four presentations were given at the seminar: Professor Kim Moonmo of Shingu University on “Directions toward Sustainable Development of Disaster Prevention by Climate Change”; Professor Kaye Brubaker on “Definition of Urban Resilience and the Cases in the U.S.”; Professor Patrick Roberts on “Directions of Legislation on Urban Resilience in the U.S.”; and Dr. Han Woosuk on “Directions of Urban Disaster Prevention Policies for Resilience Enforcement.” A panel discussion followed the presentations. Professor Han Gunyeon of Kyungbuk University, Professor Jung Jaesung of Suncheon University, Managing Director Kim Chongwon of the National Urban Disaster Prevention Research Center at KRIHS, WWC Vice President Blair Ruble and the presenters Kaye Brubaker and Partick S. Roberts were participated as panels. As experts in disaster prevention and urban resilience, they talked about the present and future policy measures for resilience to flood.
